It’s been years since the Ocean’s family were on the big screening, but now they made their return in the form of Danny’s younger sister Debbie.
I’ve never seen the previous George Clooney Ocean’s films, which these are a sequel/spin-off too, and truth be told I had no real interest in seeing this but it was the assembled cast that caught my interest.
Truth be told it was the cast that made the film as good as it was. Bullock was superb and owned the screen using her natural charm and wit both on the characters and the audience. I hope to see the Oscar-winning actress return for another heist.

It seems possible as the film opened well in the US box office.
While Bullock does own the screen, she could never take the focus whenever Blanchett was there. The other Oscar-winning actress just has massive on-screen presences and the Aussie is so fucking cool. Additionally, there’s a moment with Blanchett dominates pure sex appeal.

Furthermore, this role showcases how brilliant Blanchett is as an actress because the character is given nothing, but she still got something out of it.
Elsewhere, Hathaway (another Oscar winner) played what was like a caricature of herself dialled up to 10 but generally looked like she had a great time. However, it would’ve been nice to know more about her character in the opening act apart from she was a big-name actress.

As for the other female cast, I enjoyed each of them a lot. Carter is the ideal person to play a fashion designer and wouldn’t have been surprised if the clothes she wore were just brought in from home, I can see why Awkwafina could become the next big actress as she has a great comic timing and delivery. Meanwhile, Rihanna was perfectly decent and Paulson is basically serviceable.
This is the main issue with the cast, Rihanna, Awkwafina and Poulson have nothing to do! Rhi-Rhi is just a hacker, Awkwafina is just a run of the mile pickpocket and then Paulson is a bored housewife. I was this second reminded of Kaling’s involvement, which shows how rememberable her character was.
Then this stems from the bigger issue of this whole film. While I enjoyed it, Ocean’s Eight is forgettable and I don’t get me wrong, it’s great there’s an all-female heist movie, but why couldn’t have been an original all-female heist movie without the Oceans name as it didn’t add anything.
Just one more thing, don't give away the twist in the film in the trailer and promos WB. Especially the ending like you did with Tomb Raider by adding the post credit scene in a trailer.

Verdict
Blanchett and Bullock were good but the others had nothing. While an enjoyable film, it’s easily forgettable. At the end of the day it just fine.
