IMAGE VIA WARNER BROS

It’s happening, it’s actually fucking happening as the sequel to Wonder Woman begins filming today!

After weeks of being nothing but a pain in the arse to multiple press people at Warner Bros (both US and UK) it’s fantastic to know Wonder Woman 84 is officially the title and a real thing that’s happening right now.

The brief synopsis reveals, “Fast forward to the 1980s as Wonder Woman’s next big screen adventure finds her facing an all-new foe: The Cheetah.”

Joining returning director and all-around Wonder Woman Patty Jenkins plus star Gal Gadot are Kristen Wiig as iconic WW super-villain The Cheetah and Pedro Pascal in an unknown role. Additionally, what’s this? Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor is alive??

A number of people behind the scenes who made the original film an $822 million worldwide box office smash are returning and something to note is Gadot is credited as a producer as well. Meanwhile, we finally see DC Films chief Walter Hamada name on his first official DC Films press release as an executive producer.

What’s even more exciting is the fact we’ll be in 1984 and a lot of shit happened during this year and they include:

  • George Orwell’s book 1984 which reveals around big brother watching all of us.
  • The first ever Apple Macintosh went on sale and had an iconic commercial.
  • LA Olympic Games
  • The Aids virus was discovered
  • Sally Ride becomes the first American woman in space
  • Margaret Thatcher became the first female UK Prime Minister.
  • Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, The Terminator, Beverley Hills Cop, Police Academy and plenty more classic films were released.
  • Wham! Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go was released.
  • Genetic fingerprinting or DNA profiling was developed.

I won’t be surprised if Jenkins uses some of these themes like the DNA profiling, Orwell’s book looks already to have an impact and I hope we see how Diana is affected by the Aids epidemic.

Furthermore, the fashion is going to be fabulous.

Finally, I can not wait to hear the soundtrack as it could have The Reflex from Duran, Duran and WHAM! Then you have David Bowie and Billy Idol.

I really hope we hear some of these songs throughout the trailers and marketing campaign.

Wonder Woman 1984 hits cinemas worldwide on November 1, 2019.
