Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker origin movie has begun to take shape because not only do we have an official title and release date, but also performers are joining the cast.
The Todd Phillips directed DC films will be simply called Joker and will be coming into US cinemas on October 4, 2019, The Hollywood Reporter revealed.
Halloween seems like the perfect time for this film as could really play on making the iconic DC villain a monster that people should generally be afraid of and could embed some horror/thriller vibes within this crime drama.
With the October 2019 release, it’ll in the middle of two major Warner Bros/New Line movies as IT: Chapter 2 comes out in September and another DC movie Wonder Woman 1984 will be released on November 1.
The film is set to begin filming this September in New York and will have a budget of $55 million.
Meanwhile, as filming is beginning in about eight weeks casting news has begun to come out with THR also reporting that Deadpool 2’s breakout star Zazie Beetz is in talks to join the DC supervillain character drama.

While the script and story itself is being kept under wraps, the US trade is stating if the Atlanta actress joins the project she’ll be playing a single mum ‘who catches the eye of the man who will become the “clown prince of crime”.’
Furthermore, “the project is also described as more of a dark character study than a crime thriller, with Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy as the tonal watchwords” THR revealed.
While the Taxi Driver thing doesn’t do much for me as (I say this as quietly as possible) I’m not a fan of the film. However, I love the idea that WB/DC are going to make a character study of arguably one of the most interesting comic book characters ever created.
I think with these two bits of news coming out days before tomorrow’s Warner Bros Hall H presentation is signs to Phillips coming out and talking about Joker with a first look at Phoenix as the DC villain and a cast reveal.
