Alec Baldwin Joins Todd Phillips' Joker Movie As A Wayne

You can’t have a Gotham based film without having the famous DC family involved and Todd Phillips has found his Wayne for the upcoming JOKER movie.

However, the DC movie won’t feature on the boy who becomes the Dark Knight instead we’ll be getting to see the famous son of Gotham, Thomas Wayne.

Deadline has revealed Alec Baldwin will be playing Bruce’s father and will join an impressive cast led by Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker and will include Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy, Marc Maron and Zazie Beetz as Sophie Diamond.

As stated previously the film will take place in the 80s and will be a character study as a dark crime thriller with Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy as inspiration.

Personally, I love this choice as Baldwin could’ve played Batman back in the 90s and would’ve been pretty decent job. So seeing the 60-year-old as Bruce’s father is the next step.

However, the thing that is a worry is what The Hollywood Reporter is saying about how the character will be played and it doesn’t sound good.

“Sources say the script paints Thomas Wayne as a cheesy and tanned businessman who is more in the mold of a 1980s Donald Trump.”

This was the thing that got fans angry because this isn’t who Thomas Wayne is as a character because he rises Bruce to take care of the people whatever the money they have. Thomas, as well as a businessman, was a doctor.

The way to see it as pointed out to me is to remember this film will be from Joker’s point of view.

The issue I have is Baldwin is own for this Trump impersonation on Saturday Night Live but it’s a bit dull and stale now so it would’ve been great to see him a strong character for Gotham.

Maybe they do, maybe Phillips and co are pushing the envelope for the genre as well as the DC Elseworlds and we (the audience) see Thomas as the classic character and Phoenix’s Joker as this cheesy businessman.

Despite my reservations, I’m still looking forward to what this film could be as it seriously as the potential to be an Oscar-worthy project and performance from Phoenix.
