As the surprising news came out yesterday of Danny Boyle stepping away from directing Bond 25 caught people by left field, it’s time to think about the possible replacement.
Apart from the well-used reason of “creative differences” little is known about Boyle’s departure, which he was also penning the script alongside his Trainspotting writer John Hodge.
I was excited to see what Boyle’s Bond would be, so the departure is a bummer but as a DCU fan I’m used to helmer’s leaving their project due to “creative differences”.

Once the news broke, it led to plenty of think pieces about James Bond in the modern era, but Bond has had multiple crises. The first happened once Sean Connery left and Roger Moore replaced him to even bigger success (killing the return of Connery as 007 in the non-Bond film).
It happened again after the awful Die Another Day and the emergence of Jason Bourne (where is he now?), but then Daniel Craig (I remember when he was cast to outrage about Bond become blonde) then Casino Royale came out and was amazing.
007 also has changed with the times in Goldeneye Judi Dench’s M addressed his character in the 90s and then in Skyfall, there was a hint of his possible bisexuality. Now in the era of #MeToo, I have no doubt he’ll continue to develop to the times.
So this is just another issue Barbara Broccoli has to handle and it won't be the last as she's got experience with the property being in her family since day one so I trust in her decision over any think piece from journalist and bloggers.
Now looking forward to who could direct Craig’s final outing, which to be honest should’ve been released last year or this year looking to a 2019/2020 Bond 26.
Honestly, he would’ve come to mind if I hadn’t just rewatched Hot Fuzz for the first time in years but when you watch the action and story in the comedy then add the non-stop action from Baby Driver, it makes perfect sense Wright would be right for Bond.
The Scottish filmmaker Ramsey has directed one of my favourite films in You Were Never Really Here in where we see a Joaquin Phoenix as a hitman dealing with PTSD.
The way the acclaimed director handle the action and the beautiful aura basically if she could bring all the things she did YWNRH a superb hit into a Bond film then I could see it being a massive hit with both critics and audiences.
Coming off receiving praise for Hell or High Water in 2016 and now in what’s likely the final section of post-production of his new Netflix movie Outlaw King before doing the film festival circuit.
Scotsman Mackenzie was in the original reported shortlist of directors Eon was looking at and with Hell or High Water being one of the best films of 2016 (and my personal favourite film from two years) and 2013;s Starred Up it’s understandable he’s being tipped to replace Boyle.
The cinematographer turned director Morano has recently worked with Broccoli for the spy action thriller The Rhythm Section, starring Blake Lively, which could become the female Bond people have been waiting and looking for.
Obviously, we haven’t seen anything from the film yet as it’s still in post-production although it’s coming out in the UK in February so a trailer could be coming soon.
The issue is Morano is slated to helm her next project starring Diane Lane and Jeff Bridges but I’m sure a deal involving lots of money could happen.
Zack Snyder
I’m sure this idea will get a shit tonne of hate but I think Snyder could bring something new and awesome to 007. Furthermore, this would easily be the best action scenes ever seen in the franchise (points to the warehouse scene in BvS as proof) and if you look at his films like Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman it proofs get him with a fantastic writer then the film could be incredible.
Watchman is continually getting more respect and there's still a lot of love for his Dawn of the Dead remake.
A what a perfect film to make his big budget return and it'll be some sort his comeback story after the tragedy in his family and the monster that is Justice League.
Honestly, this could be a perfect fit.
