Following the departure of Danny Boyle a couple of months ago, Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson have found a fantastic replacement to direct Bond 25 in Cary Fukunaga!
Daniel Craig will be coming back, as previously announced, for the 25th instalment in the long-running franchise and it’ll also be his last.
The Eon producers made the announcement this morning (Thursday 20th September) confirming what was widely rumoured the production and release have been pushed back, but not by much with filming to begin in Pinewood on March 4, 2019, with a worldwide release of 14th February 2020.
Broccoli and Wilson released a statement saying, “We are delighted to be working with Cary. His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond adventure.”
Obviously, this is just a generic statement but when I saw the news I did think WHY DIDN’T THEY GET HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE!
I’ll have to check out Maniac on Netflix tomorrow as well as Beasts of No Nation and if his acclaimed first season of True Detective transfers over this Bond film could be special.
It’ll give Craig’s Bond a dark and gritty exit I think will suit his run as the character and honestly think it’s a better choice than Boyle.
So once again after rumours of who could direct, Broccoli and co when with a left field, weren’t expecting that choice. They did it with Boyle and have done it again with Fukunaga.
What I’m saying is don’t expect the next 007 be one already rumoured. Which means good news for my pick of Henry Golding as no major sites like The Hollywood Reporter or Variety are reporting it yet.

As for who’s writing the new script it has been reported by The Daily Mail that Bond screenwriting regulars Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are back in the fold having written every Bond movie since The World Is Not Enough.
However, it is the Daily Mail so take this with loads of salt.
Universal is distributing the film worldwide and MGM is handling the America release.
