DC Films' Birds Of Prey Finds There Renee Montoya In Rosie Perez

Casting for DC Films Birds of Prey is now nearly complete. As last week we found out that Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell will be playing Huntress and Black Canary.

Now The Wrap has revealed the actress that will be playing Gotham City PD Renee Montoya will be Rosie Perez.

If I’m being honest I’ve never seen any of Perez’s work, but she’s an Oscar nominee for her role in the 1993 film Fearless and starred in Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing and alongside Woody Harrison and Wesley Snipes in White Men Can’t Jump.

More recently looking into her IMDB, she’s been mainly focused on TV, but we (I) will be able to get a better idea when Perez stars alongside Anne Hathaway in Netflix’s The Last Thing He Wanted.

So she’s been in the business for a long time and it’s an interesting move by Margot Robbie and Cathy Yan to make the character older than her co-stars.

As the openly gay detective became a superhero in her own right in The New 52 comics becoming The Question. So maybe the fact Warner Bros and DC agreed with casting the 54-year-old is because this Montoya will, in fact, be The Question in the DCU.

With now three of the characters cast alongside Robbie’s Harley Quinn it means only two are left in the form of Cassandra Cain and Black Mask (according to The Wrap). So we could hear more Birds of Prey news in the coming days/weeks.

Yan is set to direct and I’m looking to seeing her first feature film Dead Pigs at the London Film Festival, which starts next week.
