Oscars 2019 - From A Shit Show To A Decent Award Show

The build-up to last night’s Oscars has been nothing short of a shit show from issues with Kevin Hart signing up and then leaving as host, unable to find a host, the introduction and quick removal of the “Popular Film” category.

Elsewhere, having certain awards announced during the ad break, which was honestly a fucking stupid idea and rightly retracted, and then only having a certain amount of songs performed live.

So there was a lot of interest and it looks like not having a host sort of worked and made the show shorter and the guest hosts with the trio Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph opening the show and clearly presented themselves as the frontrunners to host the 92nd Academy Awards next year.

They were personally one of the highlights of the show alongside Olivia Coleman’s speech for Best Actress for The Favourite, which shows why everyone loves even though everyone has done since Hot Fuzz and Peep Show gave a speech we can all be proud off, it was funny, touching and had a raspberry blown.

It was a surprise as I thought this would be Glenn Close’s time but I’m glad Coleman got the award.

The final personal joy was seeing Phil Lord and Chris Miller picking up the Best Animated for Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse despite the fact, we all know it should’ve been in the Best Picture category.

Apart from that, it was nice to see Spike Lee win Adapted Screenplay for BlackKklansman, Roma director Alfonso Cuarón completed the clean sweep scoring his second Best Director award, both Rami Malek and Mahershala Ali picking the Best Actor and Supporting Actor for Bohemian Rhapsody and Green Book respectfully.

Speaking of Bohemian Rhapsody and Green Book these films winning any award got Film Twitter angry especially when Green Book scored the Best Picture it got the community even more fucking mad.

Meanwhile, Black Panther did brilliantly winning three awards, Production Design, Costume Design and Original Score.

The only thing I’ll be forever pissed off about is the complete shut out of Paddington 2, which should’ve been nominated in the Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for Hugh Grant and Best Visual Effects and that’s only the minimum.

As for the red carpet looks Amy Adams looked gorgeous, love the red velvet jacket from Richard E. Grant, Spike Lee looked like he was in Captain Scarlet and this isn’t meant to be taking the piss, I actually thought it was cool and Constance Wu was a princess in yellow.

Eight Grade star Elsie Fisher and Poehler wore tux’s better then I ever could, Henry Golding looked like the future James Bond, shout out to Jason Momoa in a light pink suit and still looking badass, Glenn Close was old, classic Hollywood.

However, it was Brie Larson that marvelled in a metallic dress and stole the red carpet as did Billy Porter who looked utterly fierce.
