Indiana Jones Is Back!

Get your whip and hat ready, Indiana Jones is coming back. Forget the rumours Harrison Ford might be handing the whip over to the next generation, Disney has officially announced there will be a fifth Indy film.

Maybe it’s going to be called ‘Indiana Jones and the We’re Really Sorry’ but all jokes, there’s a lot of them, about the fourth film, fans will no doubt be pleased to hear their favourite archaeologist is returning with Steven Spielberg directing.

Disney chairman Alan Horn said in the announcement “Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019” he continues, “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

There’s no mention of what the story is and even more interesting no mention of Geroge Lucas, but the project will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall.

Speaking of the fourth film, it’s safe to say it’ll have no impact on this story and fears of Shia LaBeouf returning and be set to rest as it’s better to say Kingdom of the Crystal Skull never happened.

However, when you start thinking about what story could Harrison and Spielberg really tell?

There are two ways I think they could do to continue franchise passed 2019. One of them is to have him tell stories of his pass adventures of finding treasures and fighting the Nazi’s to his grandchildren, so you’re back in the 30s/40s.

Or have his 18/21 year old grandchild going to college or university and he follows Indy in his footsteps (not in a Shia Labeouf way) and have the franchise be called something else. These are the only two ways you could possibly have because Ford will be 76 years old when the film is released and there’s no way he’ll be doing stunts.

If they do the young Indy route then I can see Lucasfilm looking at who tested for young Han Solo and I think Emory Cohan (who was wonderful in Brooklyn) could be a great Indiana Jones. However, if they do the other suggested route then you can have Cohan still in the running or you can have a female leading and then I’ll have Cohan’s Brooklyn co-star Saoirse Rohan, who I think is pretty much brilliant in everything.
