Two New DC Films Announced, Wonder Woman Moves UP and More DC Movie News

It turns out, despite negative reviews by critics and some audiences, Batman v Superman has made $720 million worldwide and even though Warner Bros would have liked to make more at the box office.

Warner Bros seem to be pleased by how much it’s made and with the majority of positive reaction from audiences. The Hollywood Reporter has reported WB have saved two dates for two untitled DC films, one in 2018 on 5th October and the other in 2019 on 1st November. It should also be mentioned they’ll an untitled WB event film slated for 6th October 2017.

This will mean we’ll be getting three DC films in 2018 with The Flash on 16th March and Aquaman on 27th July and they’ll also be three films in 2019 as Shazam! is still slated for 5th April release and Justice League: Part Two on 14th June.

It’s impossible to think when Warner Brothers will be announcing the two (maybe three) films, the easy answer is San Diego Comic Con, but I have a feeling Kevin Tsujihara, Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros, will be making an announcement at CinemaCon on Tuesday 12th April.

If I was a betting man, and I‘m terrible at betting, one of these films is Ben Affleck’s The Batman for either October 2017 or defiantly October 2018. However, if it is 2017 then Man of Steel 2: Rebirth will be the 2018 date. Now the November 2019 date is tricky because if Suicide Squad is a success this summer then it’ll get a sequel or it’ll be MoS2, but it’ll change dates with Justice League: Part Two.

This is what I’m guessing:
  • The Batman – October 2017/October 2018 or
  •  Man of Steel 2: Rebirth – October 2018/or change dates with JL:P2, so MoS2 comes out June 2019 and JL:P2 comes out November 2019 or
  •   Suicide Squad 2 – November 2019

SPOILER! SPOILER!! This would mean we wouldn’t see Superman in Justice League: Part One and give his death/rebirth more impact in his solo film before becoming a member of the Justice League in part two.

In the same article by The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros are so pleased with the Wonder Woman film they’ve decided to move the film up by three weeks from 23rd June 2017 to 2nd June 2017 and this will mean instead of going head to head with Transformers 5 with will go up against Bad Boys 3 instead.

I think this was a smart move by WB because even though the Transformers films are terrible they make a shit ton of money! So why not move it up a few weeks and get more money in the box office.

Speaking of Wonder Woman more set pics have been leaked and showcases the warriors of Themyscira (where Wonder Woman is born and raised) and World War One soldiers.

Other DC Movie News
Kevin Smith confirmed on his latest Fat man on Batman podcast, Geoff Johns (DC Comic Chief Creative Officer) has been co-writing The Batman script with Ben Affleck.

About their conversation Smith said "He's been working on a solo script with Geoff Johns as well. Last conversation I had with Geoff Johns I was like are you working on it (solo Batman)? and he said yeah. I said what's it like man, how do you co-write with someone? and he's going we just break it up, he takes halves and I take halves and then we write, and then we switch material, and then he goes over mine and I go over his. That sounds so f****** fun man."

Jai Courtney talked to Entertainment Weekly and denied the three weeks of Suicide Squad reshoots are to make the film more fun/funny, but confirmed the reshoots are to add a bit more action and he also talked about playing Captain Boomerang.

Elsewhere, while talking to IGN, Zack Snyder, Henry Cavill and producer Charles Roven gave an update to Cavill’s second Superman solo film.

Snyder said “I think if we can get a good script, it would be great to get a standalone Superman movie. I think that would be fun to do.”

Cavill added “I do believe it depends upon the success of [Batman v Superman]. If this goes well then we can start negotiating with Warner Bros. to develop a standalone Superman. But they’ve got their plans set out for other stuff and Justice Leagues and various other movies. It’s about finding the time, really. It’s something that I would be very keen to do.”

Finally, Roven is looking to find time saying “We’re in the process of looking at that, but we don’t have it on the schedule at the moment because we’re quite busy with the movies that we have scheduled.”
