Is The DCCU In Crisis? Judging By All This News, I Don't Think So!

It’s been an interesting up and down week in the DC Cinematic Universe with a report suggesting the whole cinematic universe in crisis. We’ve had a director leaving a project, another director debunking rumours of his departure.

Meanwhile, more info came out about Ben Affleck’s Batman, an Oscar nominated director rumoured for Green Lantern Corp and we could be having some huge Justice League news coming our way.

Is the DC Cinematic Universe in Crisis & Batman v Superman Final Box Office

A report from Birth. Movie. Death. suggests Warner Bros execs are at odds with Zack Snyder over the Justice League movie because everyone was taken aback by the negative response by critics and many audiences towards Batman v Superman.

Also, The Hollywood Reporter released the final verdict on Batman v Superman’s box office and when it’s all said and done it looks like the film would have made $875 million worldwide, becoming the seventh biggest superhero film of all time.

So with this news people are talking about if this is a failure, but in my opinion I don’t think it is.

Would WB love to have broken into the billion dollar club? Of course, but I always thought if they made a minimum of $800-$850 million, then they should be pretty pleased and with the reviews it got then they should be pleased.

So overall, I don’t think the DC Cinematic Universe is in “crisis” and all studios butt heads with directors just look at Marvel and Joss Whedon and their issues over Avengers: Age of Ulton.

People just need to calm down and let WB go about their business and see what a DC film looks like without Snyder directing when David Ayer’s Suicide Squad comes out this August and I predict smashing it and this summer’s biggest film.

The Flash loses its Director

This “crisis” talk began when The Hollywood Reporter revealed Seth Grehame-Smith had left The Flash due to good old “creative differences”.

While it’s unclear why he left, but in a strange way this news could be a blessing as Grehame-Smith as only worked as a director on two episodes of a TV show. So he could have bitten off more than he could chew and both parties did the right thing and now Warner Bros can spend some time finding a director with experience to helm the project.

In my opinion, if WB can wait until they’ve finished filming the Han Solo film then Phil Lord and Chris Miller (21 & 22 Jump Street, The Lego Movie) would be a great choice, but it’ll seem incredibly unlikely. Alternatively, George Miller (who‘s rumoured to another project I mention later) or Edger Wright could be top choices for fans to get behind.

James Wan Stay On To Direct Aquaman

Another story to come from the above “crisis” rumours was that James Wan was worried about directing another huge film after the experience he had with Furious 7.

This led to websites reporting that The Conjuring director could be leaving the project and Wan responded quickly with this post from his Twitter leaning against a huge painting of the King of Atlantis and followed it up with this classy tweet.

It could all mean jack shit, but it looks like he’s still on team Aquaman and he even talked about the project to Empire Magazine and what sort of tone audiences can expect.

“Look at the sensibility of my movies, from Furious 7 to the horror films. You can extract the kind of movie I might make of Aquaman.”

With everything he’s learnt from his horror films and Furious 7 we could have a pretty amazing summer blockbuster with the unknown horrors of the deep sea and the fun of seeing great underwater fight scenes.

Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns Have Creative Control Over The Batman

During the recent episode of Heroic Insider, Heroic Hollywood’s editor – in – chief Umberto Gonzalez dropped the news that Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns will have full creative control over The Batman (not the official title, but I won't be surprised if it is).

Affleck is a double Oscar winner and a massive Batman fan, so for him to have so much control over this film which includes directing and co-writing the script alongside Johns, who’s also the chief creative officer at DC, who has incredible comic book knowledge of this and all DC Comic characters is exciting and brilliant news.

It was also revealed by Birth. Movies. Death. that this solo film WON’T be the version of Under the Red Hood. Where Jason Todd, the second Robin, comes back from the dead as a vengeful villain (due to comparing it to Marvel’s Winter Soldier).

This is a smart move by WB/DC and they go on to report we could be seeing a lot of Batman’s rogue’s gallery as Affleck and Johns want to make the definitive Batman film and tell the ultimate Batman story.

If this turns out to be true, then most of the cameos will be in Arkham Asylum, but the top villain(s) to get a lot of screen time will most likely be Jared Leto’s Joker and Harley Quinn played by Margot Robbie.

George Miller Rumoured to Direct Green Lantern Corps

In the same episode of Heroic Insider, Umberto Gonzalez took a question from a fan regarding a director being attached to the Green Lantern Corps and this is 100% rumour at the moment and he has heard Oscar nominated director George Miller is being rumoured to helm the project.

Just think about it Mad Max in space!

Big Justice League News Could Be Coming Soon

Finally, despite the rumours of backroom fighting between Warner Bros and Zack Snyder, Justice League is still in production and it looks like they’re stepping it up as Jason Momoa was in WB’s Leavesden Studios in full Aquaman mode and took to Instagram to talk about his day’s stunt work.

Henry Cavill has also been bossing it during his training and quoting Star Wars. Then, with Wonder Woman seemingly wrapping up filming and photographer Clay Enos posting a random photo. It looks like we could be on the cusp of some major Justice League news.
