This week in the UK box office its David vs Goliath as a small film from Ireland goes up against the X-Men, but I guarantee you’ll enjoy this small Irish film so much it’ll win your heart.

Sing Street takes us back to 1980s Dublin, where we meet Conor (Walsh-Peelo) who wants to form a band to win the heart of uber-cool, aspiring model Raphina (Boynton).

I absolutely adore this film, using its Irish charm to steal my heart and has yet to give it back.

The big reason is because of John Carney’s smart, witty script that had so much heart, and it was beautifully directed and the way it was shot reminded me of a John Hughes classic.

The whole cast was superb, especially Jack Reynor, who gave a stand out performance. Then you have Walsh-Peelo who had brilliant chemistry with Boynton and Reynor, who I fell in love with a little bit, plus you can see Walsh-Peelo growing from a boy to a young man. The big reason is because of his love for music.

Music plays a huge part in this film, which is pretty much its own character in the film, and if you’re a fan of 80s music (and who isn’t?) then you’ll love the soundtrack with classics from Duran Duran, The Cure, The Police and Spandau Ballet. Also, it’ll remind people who were bought up in the 80s how ridiculous they use to dress.

All I can say is please go out and support this film, you’ll laugh, cry and lip sync along to the songs. It's the perfect date movie.

Verdict

This is my favourite film of 2016 so far and it’ll probably top my list at the end of the year. Everything about this film I loved from the way it reminds me of a John Hughes film to the superb cast and the soundtrack is brilliant.

  1. I totally agree. Beautiful film. Watched it days ago, and still thinking about how good it was.
