There's A New Queen In Town As Angela Bassett Joins Marvel's Black Panther

Bow to the Queen of Wakanda and the queen of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Oscar and Emmy-nominated actress Angela Bassett is the latest huge star to join Marvel’s


Bassett has been given the important role of playing Ramonda, mother of Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa aka Black Panther. Think of her as the Queen Mother of the fictional African nation.

The role as bee described as “A wise woman who has experienced trauma throughout her life, Ramonda’s guidance to the prince will prove pivotal as he assumes the throne.”

Bassett, whose best known in American Horror Story, will make her return to the superhero genre after her first time as Amanda Waller in the disastrous 2011 DC movie Green Lantern.

The actress joins director Ryan Coogler’s already impressive cast which includes Michael B. Jordan as villain Erik Killmonger, Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o and The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira as T’Challa’s royal bodyguards and Forest Whitaker as “elder statesman” Zuri.


Daniel Kaluuy, Winston Duke and Florence Kasumba round off the cast for the time being as more name will likely be announced.

Production is all set to begin in the first quarter of 2017.

Marvel’s Black Panther is set to hit UK cinemas 6th February 2017.
