IMAGE VIA CLAY ENOS/ WARNER BROS |
We knew Warner Bros were bringing some major stuff and it safe to say Saturday in Hall H at San Diego Comic Con not only brought the big guns but the back up to come along too.
WB/DC started the party early by dropping the brand new and incredible Justice League poster and the reason why it's gotten people so hyped is because it’s inspired by Alex Ross’ jaw dropping artwork on one of the greatest comic books ever DC Comics’ Kingdom Come.
Ready, Player, One
The reason why I believe Warner Bros “won comic con” is that Steven Spielberg (for only the second time) was at SDCC and in front of the crowd.
The director was joined by the author and screenwriter Ernest Cline and then the rest of the cast. They had a panel talking about the film.
Never mind all that, as expected they did bring a teaser trailer and what a brilliant trailer it was! It showed off this amazing world and the pop culture nods it already has and you haven’t seen anything yet.
I’m not even a fan of this film, but the fact there’s a live action IRON GIANT is incredible.
I’ve always wanted to read the book, but now I HAVE TOO.
Blade Runner 2049
With the trailer oddly releasing a few days before Comic Con, it was interesting what clip (if any) they’d bring.
The panel began with a timeline connecting the original film to 2049 and I’d guess this will be the opening scene of the movie.
Next, there was a hologram message from Jared Leto and then the cast including Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, director Denis Villeneuve was also there.
Villeneuve explained why he wanted to tackle this film saying, “I didn’t want someone else to fuck it up. It is my favourite movie of all time.
Finally, a clip was shown involving Gosling’s Blade Runner going to Wallace Corp.
DC Films
Now came the big guns and the thing fans were most excited about DC Films mainly Aquaman and Justice League.
The panel began with an updated slate of what films will come including:
- Wonder Woman 2
- Suicide Squad 2
- The Batman
- Justice League Dark
- Shazam!
- Aquaman
- Green Lantern Corps
- Batgirl
Finally, the film that got fans super excited The Flash is now Flashpoint based on the 2011 comic miniseries by DC Films co-chief Geoff Johns.
Aquaman
The first film to get the spotlight was Aquaman and check out how Jason Momoa entered Hall H like a badass rock star.
He told the crowd “We can’t say too much. We’re a ways away, but we’re made something very, very special.
He went on to present a small teaser that is exclusive for the Comic Con audience and hasn’t been released online, yet.
Here’s a quick description from The Hollywood Reporter:
“There are two old men fishing in a little boat in the sea. French music plays, and the scene is playful in tone. One of the men gets something caught on his fishing line, which starts pulling the boat faster and faster. Finally, the fishing rod flies out of his hand.
“They look down and see ships from Atlantis under the water. They are flying spaceships. We are then transported underwater to see the fleet, including Atlantians riding sharks. It’s like Star Wars underwater. Later, we see Momoa wielding a sword, speaking to someone. Then it cuts to black.”
Director James Wan pops up on a video message and later on Momoa confirms those ships belong to his villainous brother Ocean Master (played by Patrick Wilson).
Justice League
Finally, to close off the Warner Bros presentation was Justice League.
Stay off the bat (no pun intended), Ben Affleck got asked about the THR report about him not being Batman and he’s what he said.
“Let me be very clear: I am the luckiest guy in the world. Batman is the coolest fucking part in any universe… DC, Marvel. It’s incredible. I’m so thrilled to do it. I know there’s this misconception that because I’m not directing that I’m not enthusiastic about it. It’s fucking amazing” telling the 6,000 plus fans.
He went on to praise new Batman director Matt Reeves, “Matt Reeves doing it… I would be a fucking ape on the ground for Matt Reeves. Nevermind being Batman. It’s incredible.”
You can check out the Justice League panel below.
To add to the awesome poster, a brand new and super long trailer was released and it’s incredible. Watch it for yourselves below.
The reason why I love this trailer so much is that it still has Zack Snyder’s heart and I do think that Joss Wheldon will add some benefits and character moments to the point he’ll deservedly get a directing credit on the film. However, at the end of the day, this film is still Snyder’s.
