Possibly one of the biggest news coming from the world of the DCEU and about the future with a look at their spinoffs and this one sounds fucking incredible.
The Wrap has revealed The Raid director Gareth Evans is working on writing and helming a movie based on DC Comics assassin Deathstroke with Joe Manganiello attached to star.
According to The Wrap, “Evans, who initially passed on directing Justice League Dark, however impressed DC executives with his Deathstroke pitch that the company decided to go forward with a spinoff film.”
Firstly, this is great news for Manganiello because after having his role cut out of Justice League and looking likely not to appear in the upcoming Batman solo film after Matt Reeves replaced Ben Affleck and shelving Affleck’s script to write his own story.
This likely means a new villain which must suck for the Magic Mike star after Affleck teased him in a video on Twitter last year and spoke to Collider explaining why Deathstroke was the perfect fit.

“He’s a great villain because – I just had an instinctive feeling that he would match up with him well. You know, I’m a big admirer of that character as well, especially in the New 52 the way they did Deathstroke, and I thought that it could work.”
Now Manganiello can get back into training and work with a director who is literally the perfect person to bring this story to screen.
Evans has been on plenty of DC Film fans to direct within the universe, myself included, who thought he’d be ideal for Suicide Squad 2, but Deathstroke plays to his strengths especially if you’ve seen The Raid and The Raid 2. Plus this will be the Welshman’s first English speaking film.
The main reason as to why this project would play to his strengths is because just watch the stunt work and how it’s filmed incredibly. This film should also be low-budget with the maximum should be around $60-$80 million.
Also, Slade Wilson is a character that could easily handle its own solo film because his origins are brilliant, he’s essentially an evil Captain America who uses his abilities to become the greatest assassins in DC Comics.
So a Deathstroke film, directed by Gareth Evans, starring Joe Manganiello that has to be R-rated to give audience amazing stunts and violence with a budget of $60-$80 million with a 90-minute runtime??
