Due to the surprise success of Murder on the Orient Express, it looks like Twentieth Century Fox is getting fully on-board with adapting another Agatha Christie Poirot novel.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed Michael Green, who adapted the Orient Express screenplay, is set to pen the script for Death on the Nile as its next Hercule Poirot mystery.

Even though there’s no deal in place at the moment, Kenneth Branagh is expecting to return to both direct and reprise the role of Poirot. This means we’re getting this magnificent moustache!

Originally published in 1937, Death on the Nile follows the Belgian detective on vacation in Egypt and becoming involved in a love triangle gone murderously bad. Similar to Orient Express, this focus on upper-class socialites, social climbers and servants.

Elsewhere, this wouldn’t be the first time the novel was brought to the big screen as it had an all-star cast in 1978 which included, Mia Farrow, Bette Davis, David Niven, Angela Lansbury and Maggie Smith. The most recent adaptation was the TV movie on ITV back in 2004 with Emily Blunt starring.

Orient Express has been a surprise major success for Fox with a production budget of $55 million and has currently gone on to make $148 million at the box office worldwide.

It’ll likely the studio will follow the same formula as Orient Express with Death on the Nile having major A-list stars and Hollywood actors play these roles.

This announcement shouldn’t come as a shock as at the end of Murder on the Orient Express they left the door open for a sequel being Death on the Nile, and if this film is a success and Fox should be looking at another November release, and this could be the beginning of a franchise of films.
