Ryan Reynolds Is To Voice Detective Pikachu In The Live-Action Pokemon Film

Every so often their films announced and being casting that you don’t really give a shit about, but then something happens it could be a trailer or a surprise casting reveal that makes you think again.

Even though I’d like it to be one of those times, this is just more on the surprising side of thing as The Hollywood Reporter has revealed Ryan Reynolds, that sexy man who wears a red mask, will be starring in the first ever live-action Pokémon film, Detective Pikachu.

The Deadpool star will be joining Justice Smith, who you’ll be able to see in the next year’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and Big Little Lies’ actress Kathryn Newton. The film will be made by Legendary with Rob Letterman (Goosebumps) directing and shooting will begin in the New Year in London.

This film based on a popular video game and not only will Reynolds be starring, he’ll also be voicing the title character! So I’m hoping we get Reynolds putting on a really crappy English accent.

THR adds the story will centre on Smith’s character’s father being kidnapped and is forced to work alongside Pikachu in order to find him. Meanwhile, Newton will be playing a “sassy” journalist who helps them in their quest.

LEFT; SMITH & RIGHT; NEWTON

Legendary is hoping this will be a hit after a few disappointments with Alex Hirsch and Nicole Perlman writing the latest draft of the script.

No release date has been revealed, but either way, even with Reynolds attached, I still don’t give a shit about this film.
