Who would’ve thought a little unknown 2014 B-action movie John Wick would become the hit and its own universe!
Give directors Chad Stahelski
and David Leitch they brought to life this brilliant idea created by
screenwriter Derek Kolstad to the point there was a sequel and a third film
coming, plus a female-led spin-off and now we’re getting a TV series set in The
Continental.
US TV channel Starz will be
teaming up with Lionsgate to create the TV series spinoff with the announcement
made that the TCA winter press tour (via Variety).
The series will focus on The
Continental hotels and the type of people who travel and stay inside the hotel
where assassins sleep and hope not to get killed.
The series will be executive
produced by Keanu Reeves, the film directors Stahelski and Leitch and the
screenwriter Kolstad. The Wire and Sons of Anarchy’s Chris Collins will be the
showrunner.
It seems like Stahelski will continue
being involved in the franchise directing the pilot and it’s an unknown if
Keanu makes a cameo.
The series will focus on a
new brunch of the Continental, this time in Los Angeles. It’s a shame as it
could have focused on different characters in different hotels like Brazil,
China, London, Paris. With Starz handling the US TV side, I wouldn’t be
surprised if Amazon Prime get the UK rights as they have the rights to a few
Starz shows.
