Warner Bros isn’t messing around when it comes to Suicide Squad.

Even though the first film was ripped apart by critics and it spilt fan opinion, I full into the “I like the movie it’s just a dumb, summer action movie” group, but despite all that it was a box office hit making over $746 million and now the studio is moving forward with a sequel.

Warrior and The Accountant director Gavin O’Connor will be both helming and writing Suicide Squad 2, but now Variety revealed big-name producer Michael De Luca will be overseeing the project.

De Luca’s credits including The Social Network, Moneyball and Captain Phillips. The US trade also states WB will be putting producers in charge of single movies instead of them overseeing multiple DC movies like they’ve done previously.

Batman News also reported original Suicide Squad producer Charles Roven will also be returning for the sequel.

This is a smart move by the studio as the producer only has to focus on making that one film incredible and it’ll be a chance to make each film within the DCU different in tone and look.

Getting people like De Luca and O’Connor can only mean good things for Suicide Squad 2 and they have an easy job of making a film that’s better than the original.

Production is hoping to start later in the year, maybe Autumn (Fall for the US reader) as this is the only time at the moment to bring back the likes of Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto together.
