Are You Ready? NXT UK Is About To Takeover WWE

There was massive WWE news that’ll change NXT and UK wrestling as Triple H and UK general manager and wrestling legend Johnny Saint announced a new brand within NXT called NXT UK.

The announcement was made at night one of the UK Championship Tournament and as you expect this had a MASSIVE pop from the London crowd and it won’t just be men’s wrestling as Triple H promises both a women’s and tag division.

As when this brand will begin? It turns out very soon as tapings begin next month on July 28th and 29th in Cambridge and this will continue to cities Birmingham, Plymouth and Liverpool.

It’s unclear how this will affect the UK and Irish promotions like Progress, ICW and OTT, but this won’t hurt UK wrestling as these promotions have a loyal fanbase and even the smaller brand like Brighton’s Riptide growing bigger every show.

What’s also unclear is how it’ll be televised as Sky Sports have the rights to WWE shows and PPV in the UK or since I’m guessing basically every UK wrestling fan has the WWE Network if they’ll be shown on there.

The main big reason this is even happening is that of ITV’s decision to commission World of Sport of 10 episodes and will be airing soon, possibly in the autumn or Christmas time.

Whatever happens, UK wrestling fans should be fucking excited because even though I seriously can’t wait to watch NXTUK, it would stop me from continuing supporting Riptide as their shows continue to be incredible.

To quickly look at how the NXT UK roster could look in regards of the men, you’ll obviously see a lot (not all) of the competitors from both UKCT’s with Pete Dunne as the figurehead/main guy.

However, WWE needs to get Spike Trivet because not only does the brand need some class but also a heel everyone can boo for, but secretly love.

In the women’s division, Toni Strom, Viper (or Piper Niven as she was known in the Mae Young Classic), current Progress Women’s champion Jinny (YASSS QUEEN!) and Nixon Newell/Tegan Nox will be the main women of the division.

Oh, and they better bring in Bea Priestley at some point depending if she wants to leave Japan or not.

Finally, when it comes to tag teams, Trent Seven and Tyler Bate aka Moustache Mountain and current Progress tag champs Grizzle Young Vets (Zack Gibson and James Drake) to be leading the way. If Travis Banks is going to be a part of this then WWE should bring TK Cooper on board for the South Pacific Power Trip.

Finally Anti Fun Police and Aussie Open could be the other teams involved to give the roster some depth.

If things go well, and I have no reason why they shouldn’t, and everything has calm down then I won’t be surprised if they’ll introduce a midcard title similar to when NXT brought back the North American title. Since the UK scene has great European talent (i.e Walter) it would make sense for the NXT UK midcard title to be the European Championship.
