After much confusion regarding the characters to be involved in the upcoming DC Films Birds of Prey, The Wrap broke which female characters will be joining Margot Robbie in Harley Quinn’s girl gang flick.

According to the US website, DCU movie will include two original BoP members Black Canary and Huntress. Meanwhile, we are getting a Batgirl but NOT founding member Barbara Gordon, but Cassandra Cain and the final member of the team is Renee Montoya.

Robbie is reprising the character that bought Suicide Squad so much success back in Summer 2016, but the Oscar nominated actress will also be serving as the film’s producer.

The project will be directed by Cathy Yan and as revealed by the Aussie star is going to be low budget and R-rated

Sources have told The Wrap, the film will focus on “a revolving group of female heroes and villains” and the villain won't be The Penguin as first thought but will feature “a Batman comics villain who has never before appeared on the big screen.”

If that’s the case and add the low budget and R rating, one villain pops up right away in the form of Black Mask and after seeing Hotel Artemis, Sterling K Brown is someone who could do well in the role.

Elsewhere, I’m sure fans of Black Carney will be looking forward to hopefully see a faithful and badass portrayal of Dinah Laurel on screen after they felt cheated by what Arrow has done on the CW.

However, I’ve been enjoying what Juliana Harkavy has been doing since joining the series.

Ever since impressing on TV show Vikings, Katheryn Winnick has been the most popular choice to take the role. However, Natalie Dormer is an actress you shouldn’t rule out. Additionally, depending on the future of New Mutants then Anya Taylor-Joy is my personal top choice.

Next up is Helen Bertinelli aka Huntress and this will likely go to a Black actress with Zoe Kravitz likely the top choice but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone like Gugu Mbatha-Raw. On the other hand, Sofia Boutella could be another way Robbie, Yan and Warner Bros/DC Films go.

As for Cassandra Cain, she’s the greatest martial artists in DC Comics and has held her own against the likes of Batman, Dick Grayson and Red Hood. Again the fact this is an R-rated film Cain is the ideal Batgirl as Gordon is more of a family-friendly character.

Now it depends what sort of age range they go with this character, they can go the X23 route like Logan or they can go a bit older and have her late teens/early 20s. Because it’s no surprised that Yan and Robbie went this way due to the director being Asian but also her first feature film is based in China.

The final member is Renee Montoya and as someone who grew up and still watches Batman: The Animated Series I couldn’t be happy to have this character included. Montoya is a detective in the Gotham City Police Department and is openly lesbian and during the New 52 comics became the Question.

This is awesome news not because I grew up with this character on my screen but the fact she will be an openly gay character on the big screen and is also Latina will be a big deal.

As for casting and I don’t care what people have told me or will say, Gina Rodriguez is my top pick, but Stephanie Beatriz is a great choice too and it isn't in the fact her plays Diaz in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which Rodriguez also stars in as Diaz's girlfriend.

I think both choices would be highly positively received by fans.

We’ll probably see or know a lot more this Saturday at Warner Bros Hall H presentation at SDCC.
