To quote Ross Kemp when England played Colombia, Mission: Impossible – Fallout “is everything, EVERYTHING” to become the third best film I’ve seen in 2018 joining Black Panther and You Were Never Really Here. Additionally, this is the best blockbuster of the year so far, it’s just fucking incredible.

Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and the IMF are in a  race against time to foil a terrorist group's plans for a nuclear catastrophe.

At the age of 56, Tom Cruise is still a crazy old bastard this time jumping out of planes in zero gravity, continue filming after breaking his foot jumping from one London rooftop to the next, fighting men half his age and owning them, riding around Paris without a helmet on, hanging off a helicopter and sharing screen time with Superman.

Let’s not forget he hangs off a 300ft cliff like it’s layback Tuesday.

To put all of Cruise’s crazy shit into context, Roger Moore was 56 when he filmed Octopussy. I love Moore’s Bond, he’s still my favourite Bond, but the closest thing he did to his own stunts were a karate chop and wooing a lady.

In his own way this is McQuarrie’s love letter to Bond, while also being a love letter to M:I films in the past but showcasing the future of the franchise. Meanwhile, in McQuarrie’s hand's Fallout is not only the best Mission: Impossible film made, but also one of the best action films I’ve seen since The Raid films with the storytelling of The Dark Knight.

Furthermore, you’ve probably heard a lot about the bathroom/ toilet scene and it’s as awesome as you’ve heard, to me the only competition is the Warehouse scene in Batman v Superman.

It’s not only Cruise who’s doing all these stunts, he’s clearly rubbed off his co-stars as Ferguson has a lot more fun in these action scenes, Pegg (now in his fourth film of the franchise) gets away from the desk and gets to throw some punishes and even though he’s new to the franchise, Cavill is unable to unload his arms and prove himself away from the man of steel.

Moreover, the British actor in the hand's of McQuarrie will be seen then just Superman and will be able to show his worth away from superhero films.

Going back to Ferguson, we get to see a nice arch with Ilsa Frost to the point she’s easily the heir to the franchise once Cruise decides to step away probably when he’s 80.

Ferguson leads an impressive list of female talent in the female, Bassett owns the screen the minute she’s on it, Kirby is the femme fatale, but takes no shit, Monaghan’s plays an important role in the whole film and even French actress Alix Benezech as a young police agent held herself well, hopefully we see her again.

I don’t think I can praise McQuarrie enough, the non-stop action helps make this nearly two-and-a-half-hour film feel like half-an-hour, the growth of some of these characters and now lets all just hope he returns to round off his trilogy.

Finally, I have a strong feeling he’s going to become one of my favourite composers as Lorne Balfe’s score was amazing and I can’t wait to listen to it again and again.

Verdict

Mission: Impossible – Fallout is fucking incredible and you should all see it!
