Matt Reeves is Using Jekyll & Hyde As Inspiration For His Batman Movie Plus Script & Production Update

Tuesday (25th September) was an exciting day for Batman as we got both a little update and what the film’s director Matt Reeves idea behind the character.

Let’s get the little-rumoured update out of the way as The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez didn’t feel like it needed a story and just posted a tweet instead so let’s not spending too much time covering it.

In the tweet, Gonzalez states the studio loved Reeves’ first draft of the script and the helmer is currently working on revisions with a production start date of summer 2019 being slated/talked about.

Additionally, Gonzalez says the current DC regime (led by Walter Hamada) is committed on getting this take on the Dark Knight done correctly.

This is exciting news and with a summer 2019 production date, this would be the third DCU movie filming next year joining Birds of Prey, which is set to start early in the year for a February 2020 release date.

Meanwhile, The Flash is being rumoured to start filming in Warner Bros Leavesden Studios also early next year. So it’s possible Reeves Batman will either of these films and I’d put money on London as the chance of leaked set pictures are minimal to none.

Elsewhere, what got fans incredibly excited is what the War for the Planet of the Apes director had to say about the character of Batman when he spoke to Indiewire at the TCA’s (Television Critics Association).

When asked about what he thought the identity if the real person was Batman or Bruce Wayne, he came back with the most perfect answer and something that Batman fans know all too well.

“Gosh, that’s a tough question. I think that it’s interesting, because one of the things that I’ve found interesting, just as we’re working on the story, is looking back at Jekyll and Hyde, and the idea of shadow-self, and the idea of, we are all multiple things.

“It’s different aspects of who we are, and I think there are times when maybe the surface of Bruce is not really who he is, but that’s his disguise. There are times when Batman’s the disguise, but there are times when this is true essence comes out, because by being veiled, a kind of instinctual side comes out that’s very pure” he added.

He continued by saying, “It’s not an easy question to answer, in that I think that we are all made up of so many different aspects of ourselves that make the whole. I don’t know if you could ever reduce anyone to one part of what they express. That’s what’s fun about his character, is that there’s a very bright light that shines on his shadow.

“The idea of all of that is incredibly exciting. It’s part of what makes it fun for me to work on.”

Even though, it’s been rumour Reeves is looking for someone younger and It’s more important for Ben Affleck to get fit, health and battle his addiction. But I can’t help but think that if he gets his act together Affleck would be a fool not to be Batman in this movie.
