After having the rights to Spider-Man for decades and the boom of the cinematic universe fulling at the first hurdle with the Amazing Spider-Man. Sony Pictures have FINALLY found the perfect way to introduce and expand their Spider-Verse to stand out against the likes of the MCU and DCU.

With Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, I couldn’t be more excited where we go from here, it was a similar feeling when I watch Man of Steel.

After getting bitten by a radioactive spider, Miles Morale (Moore), a Brooklyn teenager, must become Spider-Man and with the help from some fellow webslingers must save not only his world but the whole Spider-Verse.

This is hands down the best Spider-Man movie since Spider-Man 2 and the perfect introduction for major audiences to Morales as well as the wider, alternative universe. Additionally, this is currently the best superhero films of 2018 (don’t know for sure until I see Aquaman) and is defiantly in the top 10 movies of 2018.

I loved everything about. Obviously, you have to start with the ground-breaking animation, which blew me away as embedded comic book references but kept its own fresh, new style.

The way of making the different Spidey characters standout was smart while Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy, and Miles looked similar, Spider-Ham was clearly inspired by Looney Tunes, Spider-Noir is a throwback to the noir style and anime was the obvious inspiration for Peni Parker with her SP//dr suit.

Furthermore, I think Phil Lord and Chris Miller are just clever bastards for adding all these characters and it doesn’t ruin anything.

It’s even more impressive when you think they hid a very big cameo and add numerous references to the history of Spider-Man both in live action and comic, I’ll be looking forward to watching those Easter Egg Youtube videos.

As for the cast they were all brilliant with the lovely father-son dynamic between Henry and Moore and the same goes with other father figures like Ali and Johnson.

Moore was the perfect pick to led this film and kick-off the Spider-Verse. He brings superb comic timing and delivery while showcasing the emotional side of the character to the point I got teary eyed.

Elsewhere, if you’ve seen Johnson’s work on New Girl, him voicing an older Peter Parker was the perfect choice with his style of comedy. Then you have Cage has the intense, bleak Spider-Noir and Mulaney bringing the cartoonish Spider-Ham to life as both men’s voices suit their characters.

However, the stand out character was Steinfeld as Spider-Gwen. I loved everything about her from her attitude to the design plus Steinfeld has the personality and charisma to steal the film.

I loved the character that much, not only will her haircut will be the new trend but the design will be super popular with cosplayers next year, I hope we get a solo punk inspired Spider-Gwen spinoff.

Finally, this will be the success of Into The Spider-Verse is that it’s incredibly exciting where this Spider-Verse will take us with a sequel and Spider-Women spinoff already announced, I’m more hyped for this world than anything Marvel Studios has done with the MCU.

P.S. The music and Daniel Pemberton’s score just adds to the film mixing traditional superhero themes with R’n’B and deserves to be highlighted.

Verdict

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is an incredible film with stunning, groundbreaking animation and a superb voice cast that delivers a funny, heartfelt, action-packed performance with Steinfeld’s Spider-Gwen standing out against the rest.
