Warner Bros & DC Looking To Develop A Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle Film

Warner Bros/DC was the first studio to introduce the first female-led big-budget superhero film last year with Wonder Woman and it was followed up by Marvel Studio’s Black Panther.

Now according to The Wrap, WB/DC want to bring the world the first Latino lead superhero movie bringing Jamie Reyes’ Blue Beetle to their cinematic universe.

Blue Beetle has had multiple incarnations with Dan Garret in 1939 as a vigilante fighting crime with powers from a chemical compound known as Vitamin 2-X and a few years later connected his powers and suit to an archaeologist who found the alien Khaji Da scarab living weapon.

Later the Blue Beetle identity was taken over by Ted Kord a tech whizz who become a fan favourite due to his adventures. Finally, Reyes was created back in 2006 and become the Blue Beetle walking home from school he found the scarab and curious as to what it could be he took it home.

That night the scarab come to life and attached itself to Reyes’ spine giving the teenager an extraterrestrial armour and will change its abilities to enhance his speed and strength and it creates its own weapons, wings and shield.

Reyes has gotten a huge fanbase due to the fact he’s a Latino superhero and the audience would be huge to see this similar to Black Panther and Crazy Rich Asians. Additionally, having Jaime Reyes is a much better choice over Ted Kord.

Not only because Kord would just be another white dude but also there’s nothing really special about him as he’d be a Batman type character but Reyes’ backstory is different and just better.

As well as the Latino background, fans of the animated series Young Justice will be excited has become an important member of the team and he was the focus of the second season.

Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer has been handed duties to pen a script following working on a draft for Scarface at Universal and then at Sony Pictures for the Miss Bala remake.

It's hard to say what will happen with this as WB/DC have a shit tonne of characters in development including, Supergirl, Gotham City Sirens, Nightwing, Booster Gold, Batgirl, Joker & Harley Quinn, Deathstroke, Black Adam, Green Lantern Corps and probably more.
