Following the departure of Danny Boyle, Bond 25 has been thrown into chaos and losing the October 2019 release date is becoming more likely, which is why they’re making meetings with at least three possible replacements.
Variety are reporting MGM and Eon have two new targets in line with American Animals director Burt Layton and SJ Clarkson, who is currently lined up to direct the newest instalment of Star Trek.
Additionally, Yann Demange (who previously met with Bond producers) is still high on Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson’s list and it sounds by the US trade he was their original choice, before it went to Boyle, but he was still working on his new movie White Boy Rick and will be screened for MGM and Eon to see the finished product.
It shouldn’t be a surprise to see Layton’s name on this new list as his movie American Animal has been critically praised since been screened at Sundance Film Festival. However, the inclusion of Clarkson is a surprise due to the fact it seemed she was working on Star Trek 4 after becoming the first female filmmaker to land the job.
Clarkson is best known for her work on TV like the popular show Life on Mars, but if there’s little to no movement on the Paramount franchise then she could also become the female director in the James Bond franchise.
Variety did want to stress that their sources are telling them more meetings could happen.
Whatever happens, Broccoli and co will need to pull their finger out if they want any hope of keeping hold of the production schedule and release date.
However, this weeks news of Daniel Craig joining Rian Johnson's next film following Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the hope is to begin filming in November, a month before Bond 25 is slated to begin, but Variety's sources state this shouldn't affect the production schedule.
So either Bond 25 is/has been pushed back or the producers are confident they push back Johnson's filming or Craig will have to leave that project.

If Broccoli gives any shit what this random bloke thinks and ideas for directors, check out my list here.
