Top 30 Films To See 2019 - Top 10

Here we go, The Shaun Wren Blog has countdown the Top 30 Films To See In 2019 with Part One focusing on numbers 30 to 21 and then Part Two went down from 20 to 11.

Again these are UK based dates taken from Launching Film, but all dates and film titles could change.

Now, we’re in the Top 10 and we’re jumping straight in.

10. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw (Universal) – July 26

Obviously, Universal have done this to make sure people come and see the film but this is a bad title and could/should be called Hobbs & Shaw. Yet, since Dwayne Johnson joined the Fast franchise, he made the films better and it only makes sense for his character Hobbs to get a spin-off and as Fast 8 showed it was going to happen with Jason Statham’s Shaw.

This should be a great time at the cinema, a true summer action blockbuster with a fantastic cast that includes Idris Elba as the villain Brixton, Eiza Gonzalez’s Madam M and Vanessa Kirby will be Shaw’s sister Hattie.

9. John Wick: Chapter Three (Lionsgate) – May 17

When the original John Wick came out it was a massive surprise to everyone by how great it was and now has become one of the best modern action films and give its star Keanu Reeves a new cinematic life.

Now we’re heading to the third instalment of Wick’s story where he’s the most wanted man so I’m expecting this to be the most action-packed chapter of the trilogy. Where Wick teams up with Halle Berry's Sofia as he goes up against the criminal council known as the High Table.

8. Wild Rose (eOne) – April 19

Disclaimer, I've already seen this film during the London Film Festival last year and it was my favourite film of the festival and will be in my top 10 films of this year and you can read my review here.

It is an incredible film and it’s the film that’ll make Irish actress Jessie Buckley a Hollywood star. So keep an eye out for her name because major studios and franchises will be battling to get her signature.

7. Godzilla: King Of Monsters (Warner Bros) – May 31

Godzilla got a mixed reaction but after seeing the latest trailer this film looks balls to the wall awesome as we’re getting Godzilla battling its three famous enemies Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah but the human element is as compelling with Millie Bobby Brown leading the way.

This film could be as cinematic epic (I really hate that word) as Batman v Superman before we get Godzilla vs Kong and this end credits scene is going to be fantastic.

6. Star Wars: Episode 9 (Disney) – December 19

IMAGE VIA LUCASFILM/ DISNEY

The trilogy comes to the end with JJ Abrams taking the reigns once again but with Chris Terrio going to write the best script for a Star Wars and maybe we’ll learn what happened with Rey’s parents and if Kylo Ren will bring the Sith’s back to life.

We’ll likely know the title alongside a teaser trailer at Star Wars Celebration.

5. Toy Story 4 (Disney) – June 21

IMAGE VIA DISNEY-PIXAR

The build-up to Xmas, BBC aired the complete Toy Story trilogy and once again cried my eyes out at the end of Toy Story 3 and end the perfect trilogy. So it’s surprising (if not a little worrying) Disney/Pixar is returning to the well but this will be another billion dollars or two for the Mouse House.

As for the story it looks to be centred around a reluctant new toy called Forky and he joins Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the whole gang go on a road trip. They’ll meet new toys Ducky (voiced by Keegan-Michael Key) and Bunny (Jordan Peele) meanwhile Keanu Reeves as also joined the cast.

4. Untitled Danny Boyle/ Richard Curtis Project (Universal) – June 28

As a lover of romantic comedies, especially ones written by Richard Curtis and he kept his promise of retiring after About Time so the brilliant Danny Boyle is helming the project. If IMDb is to be believed is about a struggling musician learns he’s the only person who remembers The Beatles.

The cast is decent with the great Lily James leading the way with Himesh Patel, Ana de Armas, Kate McKinnon and Lamorne Morris, who was great in Game Night.

3. How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (Universal) – February 1

IMAGE VIA UNIVERSAL/ DREAMWORKS

The final chapter of the How To Train Your Dragon series could close the perfect trilogy similar to the Toy Story trilogy, which will mean I’ll likely cry and it’s amazing to see Dreamworks animation getting better over the years with this franchise.

As for the story it focuses on Hiccup and Toothless face their darkest challenge yet that’ll test their relationship like never before.

2. Joker (Warner Bros) – October 4

IMAGE VIA WARNER BROS

This is the most exciting comic book project of 2019 with Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck/Joker about “a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.”

The fact this could be the darkest comic book movie ever made especially with Todd Phillips using Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy as inspiration should be exciting to watch and you get the vibe of the movie based off this Instagram video alone.

1. The Lion King (Disney) – July 19

IMAGE VIA DISNEY

Obviously, the Top Film To See In 2019 is The Lion King.

Not only is it my favourite Disney film of all time, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that would be the same around the world which is why I believe this will be the quickest film to two billion dollars (possibly in history) with my prediction 10 – 14 days and smashing Avatar's milestone of 76 days.

This is based on Jon Favreau’s Jungle Book made over a billion in 2016 and this is a massively named property and will beat Avengers: Endgame easily.

This film will be getting everyone to the cinema from Lion Kings fans and people who grew up, families to die-hard film fans to people who barely go and then you have the fans of the cast including Donald Glover and Beyoncรฉ.
